     She didn't know.

Her lips quivered as her fingers touched the ice. Her features were in a mix of two types of pain; emotional and physical. Scraps were oozing blood, her shoulder hung limply as if it was yanked away from where it was supposed to be. Her chest rose up with  ha-ha-ha  sounding gasps, her lips bitten and bleeding as tears slithered down from her ruined eyes.

    She didn't know.

He didn't want to remember her like this. Or when he first saw her gouged out eyes, the scars. He wanted to remember her when she first saw again, how suddenly these childish orbs appeared in the hollowed gaps, it looked like the sun was peering through a glass of honey. He wanted to remember the first time she spoke nicely to him; "I'll help you."

   She didn't know.

But he couldn't remember her like that. All he could see was his father's proud grin when he found out that he, his disgraced son, could get the blessed items from the Goddess that.was.inside.her. He needed them. Nothing could get in the way of his ambitious needs of wanting to go home; to become King and rule. To force the Gods to look at him and bow. He could do that.

  She didn't know.

She didn't hear the ice crunch under his boots. His heart when lub-dub frantically, his throat felt like something was stuffed into it. Her smiling into the fire , her freckles like the sun came down and kissed her face. Her fingers brushing him when she comforted him, reassuring that one day he could be able to go home. Her fear that something had happened to him. Her unconditional friendship. He needed her. He might even say love, but not enough. He could never love her enough, she was just a commoner. A raped maiden that was graced with mercy from The Goddess of Life. She was a fly that made his heartbeat too hard. She would never be enough for him though.

  She didn't know.

His breathing made no harsh sound to cause attention to him. Yet she turned towards him, her eyebrows up and mouth in the motion of a word when he pushed the knife into her body. She didn't cry as the slick crunch sounded in the air and her body jerking . He couldn't stand to look into her eyes yet that's all he could see. She gurgled, her chest making sickening desperate movements for air. He watched the light go out of her eyes, the warmth fade. He slowly pushed the knife down her body, her insides showing the gold item. His hands shook as he took it out and stumbled away.

She didn't know.

     She was enough.

She was gone.
